Publication
Once your book is complete, it will be available on the Blurb website for you and your friends and family to purchase direct - you don't need to come through me for this. The price will be as charged by Blurb, plus an agreed charitable donation.
Will photographs of me be visible on the internet?
Only if you are happy for this to be the case. It is very helpful to me if I can include previously-published books in my online portfolio; but if you are not happy with this arrangement, that's absolutely fine.
In this case, I will provide you with a coded email link, which will be the only way to preview the book and place an order; it's entirely up to you (and therefore your responsibility) who you then share that link with.
I will also ask if you are happy for me to use individual photographs in my publicity material; in these circumstances, the individuals in question won't be identified in any way.
What about copyright?
Photographs & design
- If any or all of the images are provided by you, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have the right to do so.
- If I have taken the photographs, the ownership remains with me, but I will generally be very happy to provide you with electronic copies of all photographs (click here for details of costs).
- I will retain copyright ownership of the books I design.
Text
- If you would like text to be used in the book, such as quotations, hymns, poetry or similar, you need to be extremely careful about copyright.
- Copyright is automatic (i.e. it doesn't have to be applied for), and exists for 70 years after the death of the author. So, for example, quotations from Shakespeare will not be a problem, but the words of a modern hymn will require permission.
- I will do everything I can to assist you in this matter.
